Roofing as a Self Care Metaphor

For many of us, our jobs help shape our view of the world. As a counselor, one of my favorite parts of working with diverse populations is learning about their jobs. One group therapy session during the pandemic, a client told me their job was in the roofing industry. I explored with them, and the group, what was important to know in that line of work. Interestingly enough, they didn't talk about inventory or roofing materials. They spoke, instead, about the human component. Safety of self and others is paramount when working in this dangerous field. They were able to correlate this to life-being a human has it's own dangers! You can see through out this colorful graffiti (if you can read my awful hand writing!) the group's wisdom and clarity of purpose. We can take care of ourselves and slowly but surely, believe the powerful inner voice that guides us towards safety!
